Women Health Care
Women health care takes on a very specialized tone and there are many doctors who have chosen to be trained to treat these specific issues of the female body. The reproductive system of a woman causes the need for more than just one doctor. Most women will see at least three different types of doctors in their lives. These include a general physician who will take care of things such as colds, and viruses, a gynecologist who will maintain the health of their reproductive organs, and an obstetrician who will dispense prenatal care as well as deliver their babies.
Women health care consists largely of their reproductive system being taken care of. Their gynecologists will perform regular checkups which will include a pelvic exam as well as a Pap smear. It is through these exams and tests that any abnormalities will alert the doctor to a potential or existing problem. Many cancers have been detected through these check ups and tests. Of course, the gynecologist will also address any menstrual cycle issues such as heavy bleeding. This is also the doctor who will be performing any surgeries of the reproductive system, such as a hysterectomy.
Another very important part of women health care is the examination and care of women’s breasts. With breast cancer so prevalent today, it is vital that women join with their doctors and take an active part in the care of their breasts. Self breast exams can be easily performed at home by women. They do not have to wait until a yearly physical examination in order to be checked. In fact, it is much safer for the women if they do perform the self checks at home. If they detect an unusual or abnormal lump in either of their breasts, they can immediately call their doctors who can schedule an appointment.
In women health care, there are so many things that need to be considered and kept track of. There is even now a vaccine to be given that just may prevent cervical cancer as well as a gene that many women carry which can cause breast cancer at some point in their lives. While there may still be a long way to go in examining all of the ways to keep women in good health, there do seem to be great strides being made every day that comes closer to women staying healthier and living longer lives.
