First of all, the Forex market, or foreign exchange market as it is sometimes called, is an international market where global currencies are traded. It is very similar to the stock market, but instead of buying or selling stocks or bonds, you're simply trading one form of currency for another form of currency. Then, instead of waiting for what you've purchased increase in value, you simply wait for the new form of currency to increase in value, then trade back to the original form of currency. Even though it is a slightly different process, most trading platforms are set up so that it is very similar to a stocks or bonds trading platform.
One of the best and most advantageous aspects of the Forex market is the idea of buying on margin. Buying on margin is simply leveraging your money through your broker, in order to purchase more than you originally would have been able to. For example, if you have $1.00 and leverage $9.00 so that you can invest $10.00, and then that doubles, you sell for $20.00. After paying back the $9.00, you still have $10.00 profit on your original $1.00 investment. Try doing that in the stock market and see how it works out! While buying on margin is an excellent way to make quick money, it is also a great way to lose money fast. If you have leveraged $10.00 and your investment is cut in half, you actually lose more money than you originally invested. So, be extremely careful when buying on margin.
Another unique aspect of trading on the Forex market is the availability of automated trading software. The software is usually designed as some sort of plugin to be used with your trading interface. While some of the software is extremely useful, a lot of it is also just an absolute waste of money. So, be extremely careful before purchasing any of this software, make sure to research it thoroughly. Then after you've purchased, make sure to test it on a demo account for at least one month.
